Synopsis: In 1896 the actress Maria Gavrilovna Savina founded an institution in St. Petersburg to serve as a home and a support system for retired Russian artists. Today the Savina House shelters about a hundred retired directors, dancers, actors and opera singers whose careers all took place under the former Soviet regime. Five residents are featured, whose memories evoke the world ofperformance art under communism, while providing on a more intimate level a rare first-hand glimpse of the rapidly changing world of Russia through the 20th century. The film offers an inside view of the everyday life in this unusual home; a day in the life of a few Russians artists of exceptional sensitivity, talent and their endearing idiosyncrasies.
